The Lovers’ Dance

Ecstatic Union

A burgeoning rod  pierces the enveloping
void.

A delicate, succulent sprout springs
from dormancy and germinates within
the earth’s womb. It rises, bursting with
new life.

This copulation between thrust and
envelopment is the basis of all creation.

Anything we choose to create is the
product and child of our personal
accommodation to penetration and
encompassment.

Learning Not To Do

I have recently acquired some 15th and
17th century singing bowls.  A note was
included with them that advised me to
“Let the bowls be your teacher” The
Bowls are stationary and silent without
my action.  My action sets their voices
in motion. The bowls can be struck or
rimmed.  The resulting chimes and
unique metallic drones contain a rich
vibrational span of fundamental notes,
sub and supra microtones that last for
several minutes.  The bowls are equally
spellbinding to hear and play.

I find myself, as a beginner wanting to
do too much.  The arrow of excited
action is seducing me.  I often thrust, or
in this case, strike or rim a bit too
aggressively.  I notice when I give in to
my desire to overplay the bowls that I
miss the equally important act of
accepting the tone.  Music is an
intimate danace of doing and non-doing.
I have to remind myself to stop playing
so much.  To listen and take in the
sounds. When I don’t stop to actively
listen I can not evolve in the art of
playing these sacred instruments.  The
less effort expended on my side results
in a sweeter, fuller tone   I am learning
to cooperate with my bowls rather than
attempting to control the experience.

Inspiration and it’s offspring, creation
are dependent upon the relationship
between tension and resolution,
negative and positive energies.  In the
end, it once again all boils down to
appreciating Yin and Yang.

Claiming our Authority

Educating ourselves in an art form
brings with it the responsibility of
owning our nascent authority.  Just as
the seed possesses all the traits and
qualities of it’s full grown “plantness”,
we contain within, a state of mature
skill and mastery.  It is imperative to
understand that by choosing an art, on a
very subtle and real level, we have
already mastered it.  On a mundane and
practical level we of course continue to
amass knowledge and technique.
Rest assured that we already possess
all the requisite skill needed to navigate
the waters of creation.  By holding fast
to the integrity of our personal and
internal relationship with our art, we
gain access and answers to the
mysteries of our personal as well as
supernal life mission.

No Guru, No Master, No Teacher

Intellectual knowledge of the
particulates of an art is only valuable
when it is in balance with imagination
and intuition.  Technical skill and
didactic knowledge are useful to the
